In April sustainability certification TCO Certified introduced a new requirement for a minimum 85 percent recycled plastics in the TCO Certified Edge program. On June 18 we invite you to a webinar where we will present the new TCO Certified Edge program along with the advantages of recycled plastics in IT products.
IT products that contain recycled plastic instead of virgin plastic help to reduce carbon emissions as well as resource consumption; two important factors in lowering the overall environmental burden associated with electronics. For every ton of recycled plastics produced, it is possible to save between 1-3 tons of carbon dioxide and use up to 80 percent less energy in the manufacturing process. As a result, less raw materials are used, therefore reducing demand for non-renewables and the amount of materials entering the waste stream.
When buyers ask for more recycled plastic content in IT products, it sends a clear signal to the IT industry that sustainability issues are important.
As an IT buyer, you can always include requirements like recycled plastic content when selecting IT products. The requirements in TCO Certified are designed to be challenging, yet realistic for industry to meet; 30-50 percent of eligible products on the market should be able to reach these levels. The add-on TCO Certified Edge certification is for leading edge products. An estimated 10-20 percent of products should be able to reach these tighter requirements
